# Why don’t the structural members change when I resize my shed?

## Check Auto Apply Engineering and the selected profiles before changing member sizes.

Changing the width, length or height of a shed does not, by itself, confirm the member sizes. If the columns, rafters, purlins or girts stay the same, check **Engineering** before changing them yourself.

### Check Auto Apply Engineering

1. Open the job and click **Edit Shed**.
2. Read the engineering status at the bottom of the Shed Designer.
3. Click **Engineering** and check **Auto Apply Engineering?**.

![Status line at the bottom of the Shed Designer reading Engineering needs attention.](https://help.shedmate.com.au/hs-fs/hubfs/Shedmate%20Guides/KB%20Media%20nine%20remaining%20gaps__2026-10-20/W-01__02-engineering-status__marked.png?width=367&name=W-01__02-engineering-status__marked.png)

*(1) The engineering status at the bottom of the Shed Designer.*

*(1) Engineering in the Shed Designer toolbar.*

You choose whether to use Auto Apply Engineering when preliminary engineering is activated. You can also find the switch in the engineering panel afterwards, where engineering is available for your company.

- **On:** ShedMate can apply engineering and change members as the design changes, where a suitable computation is available.
- **Off:** Changing the shed’s dimensions does not automatically apply engineering to its members. The members already in the design can remain as they are.

**Do not switch it on just to make the members change.** If you are working from final engineering, or the shed has already been certified, check with support or your engineer before changing the design or applying new member sizes.

### If it is on but the members still stay the same

Read the message in the engineering panel. **Auto Apply Engineering?** can be on while the panel says **Engineering not applied** or the status says **Engineering needs attention**. The switch alone does not mean that a suitable computation has been found or applied.

![Engineering panel for the main shed reading Engineering not applied, with the Auto Apply Engineering? switch turned on.](https://help.shedmate.com.au/hs-fs/hubfs/Shedmate%20Guides/KB%20Media%20nine%20remaining%20gaps__2026-10-20/W-01__03-auto-apply__marked.png?width=366&name=W-01__03-auto-apply__marked.png)

*(1) The panel says whether engineering has been applied. (2) Auto Apply Engineering? can be on while engineering is not applied.*

Check that the site and building details are correct. Do not change the wind region, building class or the customer’s required dimensions just to make a computation appear.

![Engineering panel message asking to adjust Wind Region to one of the listed options so a valid computation can be selected, with an A5 option button and a Report Missing Computation button below.](https://help.shedmate.com.au/hs-fs/hubfs/Shedmate%20Guides/KB%20Media%20nine%20remaining%20gaps__2026-10-20/W-01__04-computation-message__marked.png?width=366&name=W-01__04-computation-message__marked.png)

*(1) Read the message, then check that the site and building details are correct. Keep the correct site, wind region and design: do not change the wind region, building class or the customer's required dimensions just to make a computation appear. (2) If your panel offers Report Missing Computation, save your required design first, then report the gap once.*

If those details are correct and a computation is missing, keep the required design and contact **support@shedmate.com.au** with the job number and a screenshot of the message. If your panel offers **Report Missing Computation**, save your required design, then use that option to report the gap. Send it once.

An unchanged profile is not enough to tell you whether the member is suitable. Do not choose a larger or smaller section from its appearance in the 3D view.

### Where to check the members in the design

Click **Structure**, then find **Structural Frames**. This section shows the profiles selected for members such as **Columns**, **Rafters**, **Purlins**, **Side Wall Girts** and **End Wall Girts**. The options depend on your shed and company setup.

![Structural Frames section of the Structure panel listing Columns, Mullions, Rafters, Fascia, Purlins, Side Wall Girts and End Wall Girts with their selected profiles.](https://help.shedmate.com.au/hs-fs/hubfs/Shedmate%20Guides/KB%20Media%20nine%20remaining%20gaps__2026-10-20/W-01__05-structural-frames__marked.png?width=366&name=W-01__05-structural-frames__marked.png)

*(1) Structural Frames shows the profile selected for each member. Inspect them here; selecting a profile is not an engineering check.*

You can inspect the selected profiles here. Only change them to sizes confirmed for the project; selecting a profile manually is not an engineering check.

### If your company uses its own preliminary engineering

Your company’s preliminary engineering data and member selections need to match the design you are quoting. Ask support to check the setup if the expected members are not being applied. Do not change company engineering settings to troubleshoot one job.

For UB, UC or web-truss designs, follow your company’s structural-steel engineering and certification arrangements. A model that resizes, or a quote that calculates, is not proof that the structure is certified.

### Before sending a revised quote or ordering

Check the engineering status and review any member changes before relying on the revised price or documents. Preliminary engineering is separate from certification. If member sizes still need confirmation, make that clear when discussing the quote with your customer.

Need help? Email **support@shedmate.com.au** with the job number, the dimensions you intended to change and a screenshot of the engineering message.
