# What do I get with ShedMate engineering, and what's covered?

**Most sheds go straight through automatic engineering. Some need a free check from our engineers, and a few are custom.** This article covers each path, the documents you get and who they're for, what each step costs, and what the engineering covers. A printable guide with the same content is at the end.

**The short version**

1. The status line at the bottom of the Shed Designer tells you which path the shed is on
2. Engineering needs attention? Click Report Missing Computation once. It's free
3. Customer says yes? Request certification. Your council and surveyor need the certified package
4. Outside the standard range? Ask us first

### How a design moves through engineering

![Workflow: design the shed, automatic engineering checks it, and the status line shows one of three paths. Path 1, engineered: quote it, request certification, certified package emailed, 5% of kit base material cost with a $400 minimum. Path 2, needs attention: click Report Missing Computation once, free, added typically within 24 to 48 hours, then path 1. Path 3, outside the range: ask us first, custom preliminary package at $200 per structure, custom certification at the standard rate plus 50%](https://help.shedmate.com.au/hubfs/Shedmate%20Guides/ENG08__1-three-paths.png)

When it's enabled, automatic engineering checks the shed against ShedMate's engineering library as you design. The status line at the bottom of the Shed Designer then shows which of three paths the shed is on.

#### Path 1: Engineered

The status shows the computation's name. Quote the shed as designed: member sizes and the price are subject to engineering confirmation. When your customer says yes, open Engineering and click **Request Eng. Compliance Reports**. The job needs a site plan first. Our engineer checks the job for its site, and if any sizes change, you confirm them first. Then the certified package is emailed to you.

#### Path 2: Engineering needs attention

The shed is inside the standard range, but the engineering library doesn't have a computation for it yet. Keep the shed as drawn and click **Report Missing Computation**, once. It's free, every time. Our engineers add the computation, typically within 24 to 48 hours, and the design re-checks as you drew it, so you're on path 1.

#### Path 3: Outside the standard range

For example a mezzanine or a carport fixed to a building. Ask us first. If you need figures to quote, ask for a custom preliminary package. It starts once you approve the fee, and a marked-up preliminary package comes back so you can quote. When the job goes ahead, click **Request Custom Eng. Compliance Reports**. It's quoted to you first and paid in advance, then the certified package follows.

Each status and button is explained in [What does my engineering status mean, and what do I do?](https://help.shedmate.com.au/knowledge/what-does-my-engineering-status-mean?hsLang=en)

### What you get, and who it's for

![Your job in ShedMate branches to four readers. Your customer gets Quotation Plans and Architectural Plans from Export, not certified. Your builder gets General Assembly Plans Only from Brackets then PDFs, not certified. Your fabricator gets the Brackets DXF Package from Brackets then Export, not certified. Your council and surveyor get the Form 15 certificate and engineering package, emailed once the job is certified](https://help.shedmate.com.au/hubfs/Shedmate%20Guides/ENG08__2-who-gets-which-document.png)

| Who | What they get | Where you find it | Certified? |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Your customer** | Quotation Plans and Architectural Plans | Shed Designer, then Export | No |
| **Your builder** | General Assembly Plans Only, used on site | Brackets, then PDFs | No |
| **Your fabricator** | Brackets DXF Package for the job, plus the public bracket library | Brackets, then Export | No |
| **Your council and surveyor** | Form 15 certificate and the engineering package, also your builder's certified set | Emailed to you once the job is certified | Yes |

The certified package has the Form 15 certificate signed by our engineer of record, architectural plans, site and location plans, wind analysis results, structural engineering plans and engineering reports, footing details for the site and the job's connection details.

**Plans you export before certification aren't certified.** Send your council and surveyor the certified set only. Your company manages council approval, and ShedMate can't promise plans will be approved.

### What it costs

| Service | What it costs you (excluding GST) |
| --- | --- |
| **Automatic engineering** | No charge |
| **Report Missing Computation** | Free, every time |
| **Certified engineering** | 5% of the kit's base material cost, minimum $400 per project |
| **Custom preliminary package** | $200 per structure, only if you ask, credited back if the job goes ahead |
| **Custom certified engineering** | Standard rate + 50%, quoted to you first and paid in advance. Tekla drafting, if needed, $80 an hour |

The kit's base material cost does not include concrete, labour, delivery, council fees, GST or your own markup. What you charge your customer for engineering is your call. Nothing is charged without you seeing it first.

### What's covered, and what isn't

![Three columns. Quote it straight away: standard sheds, set roof pitches, Wind Region A, pier and pad footings, freestanding carports with cast-in bases, side awnings. Custom, ask us first: mezzanines, Wind Region B, reactive sites, carports fixed to a building, sheds bolted to an existing slab. Not designed by ShedMate: slabs and retaining walls, Wind Regions C and D, council approval](https://help.shedmate.com.au/hubfs/Shedmate%20Guides/ENG08__3-whats-covered.png)

#### Quote it straight away

- Class 10, 7 and 8 sheds up to 25 m wide, 8 m high and 120 m long, up to 15 bays
- Gable roofs at 12, 15, 18 or 25 degrees; skillion at 3, 5, 9 or 12 degrees
- Wind Region A (A0 to A5), terrain category 2 or 2.5, importance level 2, outside the Northern Territory
- Pier and pad footings, with tables for 100, 200 and 300 kPa
- Freestanding carports, bases cast into the footing
- Sheds open at one end or along one side, where the library has a computation
- Side awnings no wider than the shed

#### Custom: ask us first

- Other building classes, mezzanines, UB, UC and PFC sections, trusses
- Wind Region B, the Northern Territory, terrain category 3, other importance levels, snow, seismic or crane loads
- Highly reactive or problem sites (class H, E or P): footings designed for the site
- Carports fixed to a building, other open combinations, overhangs, cantilevered, front or back awnings
- A shed or carport bolted to a slab that's already poured

#### Not designed by ShedMate

- Slabs, heavy floor loads and retaining walls: your customer needs a local engineer
- Wind Regions C and D (cyclonic): not offered at the moment; whether a job can be done is our engineer's decision after review
- Council approval: your company manages it

**Drawn isn't the same as engineered.** The Shed Designer can draw more than the engineering library covers. If the status says **Engineering needs attention**, don't quote the shed as engineered, and don't reshape it to clear the warning. Report the missing computation, or ask us about custom engineering.

### What we need from you

1. **Finish the design.** Engineering uses the version saved when you request it.
2. **Check the site.** The site sets the wind loads. Save the site plan.
3. **Send your soil test.** Email engineering@shedmate.com.au with the job number.
4. **Tell us early** about a slab that's already poured, or a side against a building.
5. **Confirm changes.** Reply to an engineering adjustments email so we can finish.
